Egypt, Egyptians A Mirror?

I think the Crisis in Egypt provides a wonderful opportunity for reflection on “How Do Things Work?” and also introspection on “How Do We Make Things Work” in our relationships,  our work,  our  home,  our  social contexts? The following questions may help the process of introspection. But let me first define some terms:

DEFINITIONS:

MAKING THINGS WORK Getting Things Done Achieving Desired Results in a Sustainable Way

LOOKING INWARD: How Do We Make Things Work?

  • Is there “a way” to make things work?
  • Do things just happen or will things fall into place, or are things made to happen?
  • Do we need POWER – skill, knowledge, ability, controlling influence, resources i.e. human, financial, systems; and strength, to make things work?
  • Do we need AUTHORITY – permission, rights, to make things work?
  • Do we need ALLIANCES – support from others with shared interest, to make things?
  • Can we make things work, if we have POWER but no AUTHORITY?
  • Can we make things work,if we have AUTHORITY but no POWER?
  • Can make things work, without Leadership – Vision, Decision, Execution leading to desired results?
  • Can we make things work, if we ignore facts, proven principles, history?

LOOKING OUTWARD: How Do They Make Things Work?

The Egyptian people have revolted saying they want change.

  • How have they defined change?
    • Is change = Mubarak gone?
  • Who is clarifying the direction of the Egyptian revolutionaries?
  • What is the basis of Power for the Egyptian revolutionaries?
  • What is the Authority of the Egyptian revolutionaries?
  • A Military Government is now in place with “promises”  that should be delivered in 6 mths.
    • Can the Egyptian revolutionaries hold the new Military government accountable?
  • How will the economy be revived/maintained so that the Egyptian revolutionaries will have Power – especially financial, human resources and systems to make things work?
