If you are reading this as members of my family, friend, Church, work colleagues, clients, and online communities, or someone I have never met, please know that I care about you. The coronavirus (COVID-19) brings a broad-based and worldwide threat of death –our own, and that of loved ones, plus for those who survive, it threatens tremendous poverty (loss – financial, mental, emotional, social).

Much of the fear and anxiety we feel towards COVID-19 has to do with feelings of helplessness and loss of control, because we are facing an invisible, deadly enemy. The more prepared we feel in challenging times, the greater our self-confidence and sense of control and we experience less stress. Having life principles and values to draw on; knowing what is required of you and being able to think about your future will help you regain clarity and be more prepared to function daily amidst the uncertainty, as well as shape your future.
Clarifying Life Principles
- If you do the most important thing first, when time runs out, you will always make progress – Pausing to prioritize before taking action, ensures that your limited time in these emergency pandemic conditions will consistently be well spent.
- To know what is most important, know the difference between what is Urgent and what is Important, and prioritize and action whatever is both urgent and important (i.e. most important), first. – A matter is urgent if it is time-sensitive, and the consequences are immediate. A matter is important if it aligns with your values and promotes your goal achievement. What is urgent may not be important. What is important may not be urgent.
- Dead birds don’t struggle – Some days will be better than others for you mentally, emotionally and physically. Accept it, take a break, cry, grieve, vent, express your frustration, then go at life again. If you are struggling with the changing demands of life during this pandemic, you are alive, and that is a precious truth. The struggle is a blessing.
